We have a runner! Off the road for several decades, Gretchen's '64 GL made its first lap around the block tonight! Ran strong and true!

ran 1st and 2nd gear. will go through all 4 this weekend.

I am glad to hear it. How did the engine sound, and can you get revs out of it ?

hit 3rd and 4th gear. 3/4 3rd and 1/2 4th. felt good. ran out of gas. after a fill and some more laps, I'll check the plug color

got 10 miles on the clock today. my neighborhood is great for breaking in and testing scoots! I noticed after 10 miles, it idles a little slower. I'll guess the gas and oil have filled any gaps to reduce excess air flow.

Dave, the cars is a 20/17. we won't know for a while about power. I'd like to get through a tank of gas before going much past 1/2 throttle in 4th to break in the rings

Gretchen, here's the lights you need:

rear running light 6v-3w
http://www.scooterwest.com/items/?_page ... -Bulb/1905

rear break light 6v-10w
http://www.scooterwest.com/items/?_page ... -Bulb/1905

head light 6v-25/25w
http://www.scooterwest.com/items/?_page ... -Bulb/1883

front running 6v-5w
http://www.scooterwest.com/items/?_page ... -Base/1877

Scooter Mercato

has all but rear running, which I have extra of.

Just ordered them all. I had bought a couple of the 6V 3W bulbs earlier today, and everything else should be on the way soon.

once the lights are sorted and we have gone through a tank of gas (about 100 miles), we'll look to expand the riding boundaries. You'll want to do about a 500-1000 mile run-in on it before going fast. basically no more than 1/2 throttle in the gears. so light city riding will be ideal. During run-in you'll mix 3% oil. after run-in 2% normal.

During run-in, nuts can loosen up, so we'll check the important stuff after 100 miles (head, wheels, flywheel, breaks).

other items that will need to be sorted will be horn and speedo. you'll want some floor rails or floor mat too at some point. you can work on these while completing run-in.

Did you get a title with it or just bill of sale? you'll want to start of the paper work needed to make the scoot street legal, including insurance. which ever, talk to us first because the DMV can suck.

21 miles on the clock now. the idle slowing after riding a few miles is puzzling. the scoot restarts just fine if I shut it off. BTW, it's first kick!

Oh and speedo started working. not great, but working
