Vacuum problem?

Postby Elliott » Thu Sep 06, 2012 11:52 am

I have a 1983 Yamaha cv80. Yes, I know it's not a Vespa, not all steel, and it's automatic but I was hoping someone could help me with this. I've gone through the carb many times and it's clean, I have spark, and I have compression on the top end. But, the spark plug is dry when I kick it. I think it may be that I'm not getting suction from the engine to pull gas out of the float bowl, but I really don't know much about fixing scooters. Any other suggestions? Is there anyone that can come help a broke college kid in the coburg road area?

try running a gas hose directly to the carb and bypass the tank. if it runs, something with the fuel tap would be the issue, old gas, rust in the tank etc can easily clog up the fuel tap (common issue on vespas too). also, just pull the gas line off and see if gas will flow out the line. your bike should have a vacuum actuated carb and i have found them to be persnickety at times.
